Whew, it’s been a minute or two… I was cruising along, and then a whole bunch of stuff happened. It had a cascading effect on my world. It started with the implosion of RWA, a couple of personal and health bumps, then the Pandemic happened. A few months in, my ADHD was out of control, and anxiety decided it was time to move in permanently. It paralyzed my creativity, and I was unable to write anything longer than a tweet. I couldn’t finish revisions on Safe Harbor or go forward with Rising Tides. Even attempting other creative outlets wasn’t giving me any joy. So I drifted. The Business of Being an Author Part 2
In this post, I’ll go over the necessity of having a website and the services it provides that are directly related to being an author. Read Part 1 here. A website is possibly the most essential aspect of any business, but especially for an author–regardless of publishing path. Your website is the place where everything resides. It is your virtual home, the place where readers get to know you, your characters, and your books. Each page is a visual calling card displaying your brand using colors, images, and text.
The Business of Being an Author Part 1
Being an author is so much more than writing stories. It sounds so simple. Write a great story, publish it and watch the money come in. Cue hysterical laughter from the writing community. While writing can be a hobby, if you are serious about publishing the stories you create, you must understand it is a business. Indie publishing is a demanding, full-time business even if you only work at it part-time.
A Brief Update
Wow, it’s almost Thanksgiving. How’d that happen? Life has been incredibly hectic around casa Phillips. Mr. P and I have been trading germs trying to one-up the other with who’s the sickest. Fortunately, modern medicine’s antibiotics have put us on the road to recovery. I still have a lingering cough but I am upright and functioning. In spite of my body’s best efforts to get acquainted with the grim reaper, I have made a few more updates to the website. I’m in the process of setting up my newsletter, Rochelle’s Readers. I hope to have all the signup forms active and the first newsletter ready by the first week of December. Being sick for most of October has put me…
